Mobile Phone Usage Statistics

Daily Ramblings, Interesting Stuff October 10th, 2007 @ 1616h

I have been tracking my mobile phone usage statistics since the start of this year and i thought perhaps it’s time to publish a three-quarter report! I shall comment on the general trend and account for them!

First up: talk time. This includes any voice calls and video calls.

There is a general decreasing trend in the number of minutes I spend on the phone. I account this for my increasingly isolation from the WORLD into my own little corner of the universe. Jokes aside, I don’t usually make much calls anyway so this trend doesn’t really mean much. It might spike up again any time soon. Anyway, the huge spike during May was due to the organizing of VICOMP which took up a lot of my time and energy.

There is a general stable trend in the SMS usage hovering around the upper end of 300. That’s a good sign though because I can keep to my free SMS limit. The spike during May is of the same origin as above. The high count in January is probably an after-effect of the December holidays.

And that’s the end of the report. If you are bored, here is the excel file used.

Disappointment and Being Stuck in School

Daily Ramblings, Interesting Stuff January 31st, 2007 @ 2214h

It has been brought to my attention that it is now possible to simply flash a N80 Standard phone to N80 Internet Edition by simply changing the product code and then running Nokia Software Updater. Alas, my joy at discovering this was short-lived – the software for changing the product key doesn’t work under Windows Vista, not even under compatibility mode. Huge disappointment. Fear not, the Internet Edition phone shall be mine soon.

A couple of us were stuck in school today, literally, behind locked gates on the second floor of the V-block. We shouted all around and a bunch of people sitting somewhere on the first floor decided that we were just being crazy and didn’t even bother to help us find someone to unlock the gates. Such an apathetic bunch of people. We were saved by Miss Jancey (spelling?) though.

Mobile Phones and Internet

Daily Ramblings, News December 28th, 2006 @ 1724h

Been a while since I ranted on Mobile Phones but wait, I saw a whole page advertisement at the back of Straits Times main paper today by Nokia advertising three products that is from Nokia’s branch of “music phones” with their music editions of phones (the other branch being the “internet edition” phones): the N70 Music Edition, N73 Music Edition and N91 8GB.

Nokia seem to be liking to bundle “special editions” of their phones these days. Among all these, I’d say N70 Music Edition is probably not worth getting. N73 is good for its camera while N91 is good for its Wi-Fi and the huge 8GB hard drive. But alas, I think it would be better off getting N95 next time when it’s released for the same price.

Starhub has unveiled its 100 mbps broadband service yesterday, albeit at a pretty bad time, but nonetheless being the first provider to bring 100 mbps to consumers in Singapore. They’ve also upgraded their existing customers speed.

I’ve been using Singnet ever since I’ve started getting an internet connection. I wonder why I still stuck with them even after so much has happened. They ought to learn a few things from their rivals. Instead of overpricing their subscriptions and coming up with new connections that are faster and cheaper , why not take the starhub route and upgrade existing customers’ speed? Imagine how many happy customers that would make! Or are they only concerned about their profits? Look around any local forums and you can see a lot of Singnet users complaining.

In other news, someone has hacked his way Nokia Lifeblog to enable for WordPress. Since I haven’t exactly found any mobile blogging application to my tastes, I guess I will try this out for a while.

P.S.: I was typing this post when my internet connection went down again and I couldn’t access the site. For those of you who have the same problem, proxy servers will save your life.

Bad Day and IPTV

Daily Ramblings, Interesting Stuff December 19th, 2006 @ 2241h

A bad day. No, not the song (or songs).

I can almost “proclaim” that it has been raining for almost 48 hours straight. Nice and cool weather. Everyone should be cool and glad. But alas, as they say one bad thing in the morning can ruin your day. I certainly had that.

A SMRT Bus Driver decided to skip the bus stop I alight this morning even when I’ve pressed the bell ages in advance. On a normal day, I would have been pissed for a few minutes and then let the matter pass. BUT, why does it have to happen on a rainy morning?

I had to get drenched by the raining walking to the bus stop, miss my bus, and feel foul for the whole morning. I even contemplated the idea of lodging a complaint to SMRT, but the magnanimous me decided to let it go.
