Of Death and Spending and Wars

I am feeling really guilty. I have been spending way too much money lately.

My dad is currently undergoing some angst period where he decides to isolate himself from the rest of the world. I don’t know what is wrong with him and I think there must be some kind of troubles he isn’t revealing. He decides to eat dinner outside and just sleeps his time away at home.

My DIY desktop rig which I bought and blogged about at said link just died. It refused to bootup and I suspect it’s some sort of Graphic Card failure. The only problem is, the screw securing the card is screwed so tightly and the grooves on its head are damaged. The only way to remove it is to either damage the card or the CPU casing.

And I have yet to backup my data.

All in all, I’ve spent around $3k on repairing, upgrading it through its short lifespan. I think I’ve had enough fun already. I am giving up on DIY rigs and going for OEM with more solid support. The current support, aka yours truly, isn’t that reliable.

I am currently eyeing the Aspire M5630 (Q66MR86) which offers pretty good specs relative to its price. In fact, I would say its excellent.

On another note, I am going to sell parts of my old computer that are still usable, albeit a little dusty, for jaw dropping prices (to be decided later) with their original packaging. Included items are
– 2 x 1 GB PC-3200 Kingston RAM
– Sound Blaster Audigy Value
– Sony DRU-720A DVD Writer
– nVidia 7600 GT (if I can get it out…)

No concrete plans to get the system yet. We shall see.
