Love this song =)

Horrible Virus Infection and Job Offer

Daily Ramblings, Interesting Stuff March 26th, 2007 @ 2112h

I thought the virus infection I mentioned the other day was all that was. Unfortunately, it isn’t so. Apparently, one of the computers in V26 was infected with a worse virus: Win32.Sality. What’s so bad you ask? It steals passwords! Being the cautious person I am, I decided to change some passwords for my more important accounts since I’ve used that PC before.

For the more technical inclined, the virus spreads by many ways. One of which is to append itself to .exe files it comes across. Yes, you got it: The whole PC is infected. Every single .exe files are infected. No other way than to do a reinstall.

Worried and don’t have an anti-virus software? I’m no fan of Symantec’s products (they make the Norton series if you didn’t know) so I’ll recommend you a free antivirus that’s quite popular: AVG.

In other news, I received an email out of the blue about some job offers for some web positions:

Trojan Scare and Elusive Teacher

General March 24th, 2007 @ 2255h

Apparently, one of the computers at V26 is infected with a trojan/worm that spreads through thumb drives. It loads itself into your thumb drive and set itself to autorun whenever your thumb drive is inserted into another PC, infecting it. It seems to be Trojan-Downloader.Win32.VB.auk.

It was lucky Vista had that autoplay dialog box asking if you want to autorun anything. Otherwise I might have gotten infected. Cleared them out and all’s clean.

In other news, while we were trying to distribute some papers to the pigeon-holes of various teachers, we just couldn’t find a certain teacher’s pigeon-hole. And guess what, the teacher’s name was hidden behind some envelope he placed over his pigeon-hole. How elusive.

Photovista Singapore

Interesting Stuff March 23rd, 2007 @ 2159h

A while ago, Microsoft Singapore launched the PhotoVista Competition for people to send in photographs that will make it as wallpapers for Windows Vista. You can download the winners’ photos here. Some of them are pretty cool!

If you’ve been reading lately, you’ll know what RIAA is currently doing. It’s no surprise it won the Worst Company in America Award and apparently, Windows is the most secure operating system.

Eye Candy Galore

Interesting Stuff March 22nd, 2007 @ 1941h

Ever thought it was cool to connect two monitors to your PC? How about four of them? =)

For those of us without the luxury of having more than one monitors, with one monitor running, say a full screen game, and another surfing another site, fear not! There’s a pretty cool application that can do this: Yod’m 3D for windows XP and Vista.. It’s basically a copy of the Beryl Cube on Ubuntu. Now you can divide your play and work from each other. Windows Vista’s Improved APIs for a Programming Layman

Interesting Stuff March 20th, 2007 @ 2232h

For those who are more technically inclined, you might find this article a very interesting read. Certainly makes Vista a more worthwhile experience to upgrade to other than all those fancy eye candies. Not recommended for the rest.

I had something I wanted to blog about but I forgot about it.

Extremely Blur

Daily Ramblings March 19th, 2007 @ 2053h

The first day of school. Still have loads of unfinished stuff to do. And people just keep dumping more on me, as though I have a lot of time.

Had the first part of my H3 test today. It was not very bad nor very good either. I could only say it’s “pass-able”. There’s still a “part 2″ this Thursday. Gosh, double the days, double the agony.

I was really blur today. I went onto the bus, fell asleep and almost missed my stop. I pressed the bell just before the bus was about to leave, rushed down the deck and got off only to hear mumbling from the bus driver before he drove us. Really sorry uncle! Then when I reached the lift at my flat, I almost forgot to press the floor that I needed to get to.

If you were expecting more, that’s it. Hope I still make the “30 second reading mark” ;)

50 Laps and Internet Explorer

Daily Ramblings, Interesting Stuff March 17th, 2007 @ 1752h

Happier stuff first. I was dragged to the pool yesterday by Kian Yong and well, we managed to swim 50 laps, which is a personal record for me: I’ve never exceeded 30 before. The experience was cool, but the fatigue and hunger wasn’t.

I’m sure some of you must have heard one of the reasons I don’t want people to use Internet Explorer is because it makes a web developer like myself have a hard time. Technical coding reasons aside, here is one very visible reason WHY it makes things so difficult:

No prizes for guessing which one is Internet Explorer. For all you dis-believers out there, whether you like it or not, more people, including myself, are treating Internet Explorer as a second class citizen by disabling some stuff on it.

March “Holidays”

Daily Ramblings, Interesting Stuff March 15th, 2007 @ 1645h

So it’s nearly at its end. It’s so fast that I hardly felt I took a break at all. So sorry to those whom I had to pangseh (i.e. Xiang Long) because I have quite some stuff to do: Thinkquest and VICOMP being the most major of these.

There is one blog that I highly recommend: Stressed Teacher whom I’ve mentioned in the previous post. Insightful posts. More than Heart-Mind-Body-Soul ;)
