Bad Day and IPTV

Daily Ramblings, Interesting Stuff December 19th, 2006 @ 2241h

A bad day. No, not the song (or songs).

I can almost “proclaim” that it has been raining for almost 48 hours straight. Nice and cool weather. Everyone should be cool and glad. But alas, as they say one bad thing in the morning can ruin your day. I certainly had that.

A SMRT Bus Driver decided to skip the bus stop I alight this morning even when I’ve pressed the bell ages in advance. On a normal day, I would have been pissed for a few minutes and then let the matter pass. BUT, why does it have to happen on a rainy morning?

I had to get drenched by the raining walking to the bus stop, miss my bus, and feel foul for the whole morning. I even contemplated the idea of lodging a complaint to SMRT, but the magnanimous me decided to let it go.

New Domain Version 6.5

Site December 19th, 2006 @ 2129h

I’ve decided to change the themes again, to one that adheres to the the recent web 2.0 trends in blog designing. The main page looks cleaner too I think, with less clutter and stuff. With this, I launch version 6.5 of the site.

Anyway, for those of you who misses the old design, which I still like, you can change the theme using the drop down list at the bottom of the page or at the side of the page, depending on the theme you are at. Any problems? Just tag at the tagboard or comment somewhere and I’ll try to fix them.

And I promise to clean up some pages (like the glaring awfully outdated coding page) ASAP!

Anyway, I’ve moved my feed over to FeedBurner to track feed stats. It’s kinda cool.

Random Stuff

Interesting Stuff December 18th, 2006 @ 2300h

Since someone complained I’ve talked too much about mobile phones (Nokia in particular), I should probably write about some random stuff today. Let’s see…

The “taboos” of blogging – I’ve long gone past the age of writing about “Today I woke up and saw so and so”.

Speaking of this, I remembered digging up one of my old “diaries”. I used to keep them, at least for a few entries, during primary two (8 years old, barely), I guess I am still keeping one, albeit not so much about my personal life and not written on a book. Here’s a sample entry, formatted in a manner as similar to what was written on paper as much as possible:

morning: sanmy Sunny
afternoon: winging
ev., night: winging (rain)

Today Mother and father bring me to some bookshop to buy some books. There are many kids books. I never go to school because I have am sick. Now I have move to anotoganother drawer. So I can lock the drawer. Today I play very fun. Now I am playing with my brother. Now I am also writing this dairy dairy. Today I have a very Good day. Now I am slepy going to sleppin. So I did. bye-bye.

Gosh, I can hear someone back there laughing their heads off at this. Be mindful that I was eight and English’s not my native tongue!

With the installation of WP Tiger Administration, my wordpress admin looks much refreshing. A new look I would say. Perhaps I should adapt something like this for the tagboard too. We shall see. Perhaps Shiyun would like to help out a bit ;)

Losing power over at Microsoft and Google Earth Beta should wrap up the post nicely.

Nokia N95

Interesting Stuff, Wishlist December 17th, 2006 @ 1708h

Nokia N80 was touted as a “feature king” phone by some in its era. It’s title is going to be claimed by the upcoming N95. Mr Brown had a chance to see the new phone in action! Watch it at his WTF! Show. If there’s santa, this will be what I want for Christmas… next year perhaps.

More later perhaps.

Shotcode

Interesting Stuff December 17th, 2006 @ 0047h

For those of you with a camera phone, you might be interested to see this: ShotCode. What is it you ask?

Basically, you sign up, make an account, download a small Java application for your phone and then it all starts from there. Perhaps you want to visit a webpage from your phone but is frustrated by the need to type all those long addresses on that pesky keypad? Fear not. ShotCode is here to save you that trouble.

You generate a ShotCode image using the link your produced, fire up the application, use your camera and focus it on the code on your screen, and the application will automatically recognise the website you want to visit and fires up your browser! A pretty cool application =)

In other news, you should be able to see the list of music I have listened to recently at the right of the page, below the tagboard. I use Last.fm for that. Some “social music” site.

Evils of Nokia II

Daily Ramblings December 16th, 2006 @ 1735h

Singtel has started selling Nokia N80 Internet Edition… for $598! Seriously, WTF!? It’s TWICE the price of N80. Is a few pieces of software and improvements worth so much!? I doubt not. Still waiting patiently for the firmware to be available via Nokia Software Update.

Combating the Evils of Nokia

General December 14th, 2006 @ 1923h

Apparently, full instructions for converting a N80 Phone to a N80 Internet Edition phone is now available, just as I have predicted before. But anyway, I think I’ll hold off the upgrading for now. I’ll wait till an easier and safer method (of which means the firmware is available through Nokia Software Update) becomes available.

Bought a 2GB Kingston mini SD card for $43.70. A pretty good deal if you ask me.

Taipei Trip 2006

Interesting Stuff December 13th, 2006 @ 2347h

This post was written by Mr. Ho Chuan Lui.

Howdy ho! I’m back from Taipei so I thought I’d use more Singaporean English here, though still in full sentences.

The 5d4n trip to Taipei was rather interesting, and there are 12 things I’d like to share here.
