We had a BBQ at Zwing’s house and the turnout was pretty good. The food was good too. Thanks a lot!
I started learning Mahjong during the June’s 4G chalet. I couldn’t really get the hang of the game at that time but I guess I can play the game well now more or less. Beware Van – your one million dollar is going to take even longer now when I start winning all your cash!
Stayed overnight and talked about a lot of stuff.
Played Monopoly in the morning and I was practically bankrupted.
Watched the movie already. Frankly, it was a little disappointing – for manga readers/anime watchers at least. For those who have never encountered Death Note before, I think Death Note will be a rare treat for them. Spoilers for both the manga and movie beyond this. Read the rest of this entry »
And so we sent Mrs. Chan off with a concert (and a pretty rhyming song) and a video. I think some of you won’t know or understand what on at the start of the video. So, I thought I could do some justice to the video and explain a little. Oh yea, the contents of the video were decided by the teachers by the way.
(Fresh off Youtube; not even posted on cosiety yet.)
After the usual fanfare, you see all the teachers going “aiya”. Basically, they were imitating the way Mrs. Chan talks. That simple. Although you can’t hear it, the first three “aiyas” are, I think, synchronised to the “ayeyaeyai” of the background song, Butterfly. The original idea was to use the song to run through the whole video with the aiyas inserted here and there while photos are being shown. Oh yea, you should be able to see some butterflies fly across the screen, as attuned to the lyrics of the song.
The “machine-like” sound at the end of the video was because of the clip there being played at slow-motion.
Shiyun did most of the work so kudos to you! I feel bad not being able to help out that much. You can find the song being used here.
Anyway, after all of them, Mrs. Chan gave what could be the final full-day of VJC. *sobs* I wonder how the next principal will be. Will he go “shut up” after everyone cheer about a “half-day”? (not even going into the domain of a “full-day”) I don’t know.
Did Tan Thiam Hock receive these kind of treatment when he retired? I don’t think so. Mr. Sng was so much better. Speaking or Mr. Tan, for those of you still with that free chemistry guidebook he gave us, flip open to page 292. You see some organic compound being named “1,1,1,1-tetramethylmethane”. So much for being a Chemistry teacher.
Oh my life is changing everyday
in every possible way
And though my dreams
it’s never quite as it seems
Never quite as it seems
The next time you want to be a gangster in online chatrooms, think again. That’s, honestly, hard to imagine. Will you fly all the way from Singapore to, say, New York to beat someone up because he cursed your mother?
The haze has finally improved a little and so has the crane-folding craze. I managed to get rid of the whole stack of paper to be folded somehow and I am extremely glad of that. No wonder my profile says that I have no creativity
After the exams… we still have lessons. At this moment, I’m not in the mood of doing any studies-related work totally. Oh well, I still have to figure out the Probability tutorial by thursday.
We got back our 16PF analysis today. Interestingly, it’s pretty accurate. Apparnetly, I have almost no creativity (which I agree) and very reserved and private. The career options that I am recommended seem to fit my interests as well – physics, math etc. The only thing is… why am I recommended to be a farmer?!
In other news, I’ve managed to come up with some prototype interfaces of my latest “project”. I know some of you will exclaim it closely resembles that of WordPress – I know that because I modelled it after WordPress’s design. Can’t blame me for that can you – I’ve got no creativity.
“Thank you for your hard work It’s finally over!” That was what I placed on the plasma screen after everything was over. I wonder how many of you saw that.
Loads of technical hiccups along the way. There was the ubiquitous problem of not being able to receive the camera stream; there was a problem of approximately 10 seconds lag between the camera and the screen; there was the problem of the plasma screen computer suddenly going haywire. I ran around, attending to this, making sure that works and checking out why that doesn’t work. In the end, we were able to screen the closing ceremony mostly without problem save for some lag.
We definitely need to write some better documentation for the next batch. In the end, I didn’t get to see much of the open house and never spotted anyone worth mentioning.
Anyway, tonight was the 50th Anniversary for Dunman High. Happy Birthday =) Too bad I couldn’t bear to part with $70 to get there. There was some news coverage on it but most of it is about PM Lee’s speech anyway.
*Drools at this*! My goodness. I can’t take it anymore. I’m going to try my luck with the special edition at Kinokuniya (provided they import them).
*EDIT* Never mind. It’s too expensive. Apparently, there’s some extra charges incurred with the importing. $70.60 for crying out loud!
I remembered taking some time off last year and visiting the various open house at this time of the year. And this time round, I’m the one helping out with the open house instead.
What I did today was to test the computers and see if we can stream video from a mobile video camera to the plasma screen. It’s kind of complicated: at least 3 computers and 2 cameras are needed. And we did it all with VLC Player. Kinda cool – I never knew that the software was that powerful.
With that aside, I hope it works tomorrow, meaning no technical glitches, no screw up in the Wireless network etc.
