Adios, Mrs. Chan

School October 20th, 2006 @ 1847h

And so we sent Mrs. Chan off with a concert (and a pretty rhyming song) and a video. I think some of you won’t know or understand what on at the start of the video. So, I thought I could do some justice to the video and explain a little. Oh yea, the contents of the video were decided by the teachers by the way.

(Fresh off Youtube; not even posted on cosiety yet.)

After the usual fanfare, you see all the teachers going “aiya”. Basically, they were imitating the way Mrs. Chan talks. That simple. Although you can’t hear it, the first three “aiyas” are, I think, synchronised to the “ayeyaeyai” of the background song, Butterfly. The original idea was to use the song to run through the whole video with the aiyas inserted here and there while photos are being shown. Oh yea, you should be able to see some butterflies fly across the screen, as attuned to the lyrics of the song.

The “machine-like” sound at the end of the video was because of the clip there being played at slow-motion.

Shiyun did most of the work so kudos to you! I feel bad not being able to help out that much. You can find the song being used here.

Anyway, after all of them, Mrs. Chan gave what could be the final full-day of VJC. *sobs* I wonder how the next principal will be. Will he go “shut up” after everyone cheer about a “half-day”? (not even going into the domain of a “full-day”) I don’t know.

Did Tan Thiam Hock receive these kind of treatment when he retired? I don’t think so. Mr. Sng was so much better. Speaking or Mr. Tan, for those of you still with that free chemistry guidebook he gave us, flip open to page 292. You see some organic compound being named “1,1,1,1-tetramethylmethane”. So much for being a Chemistry teacher.

Oh my life is changing everyday
in every possible way
And though my dreams
it’s never quite as it seems
Never quite as it seems
