Miscellaneous

General September 16th, 2006 @ 2010h

Well, I’m going to write a password protected post that is not meant for the public eyes soon. So if you are wondering how you can read that, ask me for the password on MSN.

Anyway for those of you wondering why cosiety is down, fret no further. Apparently, the MySQL server on the “web.vjc.moe.edu.sg” server is down.

I realized something was wrong when I kept receiving error emails from the icomp website and guess what, here’s 40+ email messages about the same error.

4 days of server error and still counting…

Warcraft

I’ve been playing warcraft again.

It had been a while since I last played Warcraft. I used to play Warcraft like there’s no tomorrow during Sec 1/2. I remembered staying late into the night and playing games on Battle.net. Of course, my results suffered.

And after that episode, I promised myself I will never have such an addiction for gaming again. Mayhap I kept my promise because I have yet to go on another full time gaming addiction spree (thankfully).

BUT, Mr “we all need sleep” has to get me into playing Warcraft NOW at this TIME of the year. zzz

Meaning of Birthdays

General September 13th, 2006 @ 0007h

Your Birthdate: June 21

You’re a restless rebel with an unpredictable nature.
Bright but unbridled, you tend to seek out wild experiences over new ideas.
People are frustrated by your great potential, but you love your unconventional life.
You’re a heartbreaker. People get attached to you, and then you’re gone.

Your strength: Your thirst for adventure

Your weakness: Not taking time for slow pleasures

Your power color: Hot pink

Your power symbol: Figure eight

Your power month: March

Sounds so wrong… lol

“Death for you, life for our crops”

Certainly… either Singnet/Singapore’s ISP had some cock up or MSN servers are having some problems. The problem is, none of us could sign in to Messenger. You could do it with Web Messenger but not with the client itself.

What’s wrong?

EDIT:

Accoding to mess.be, do the following to fix the problem:

just put the following lines in your hosts file:

65.54.239.80 messenger.hotmail.com
65.54.239.80 dp.msnmessenger.akadns.net

More info on how to edit your hosts file here.

“S” & “S”

Books, Site September 8th, 2006 @ 2141h

The first “s” goes to SPAM.

spam.png

SPAMMERS are getting more and more relentless, and long winded as well. What you see in the above screenshot is only 25% of the length of a single SPAM comment.

The second “s” is for shopping; well, I didn’t shop much anyway because I already what I wanted in mind. Xiang Long and I went around Orchard and finally Bugis looking for his bag,

Call me a fanboy or whatever you like – I’ve just bought the first six books of the Dark Towers series and placed $100 into Stephen King’s pocket. (Book VII and The Stand coming soon!)

Oh, what irony.

Spent the whole of today at home.

The Pool

Books, General September 6th, 2006 @ 2143h

Xl and Zenden went mugging on the topic of “1 ball hit[tting] the other ball, would it stay put, roll back, or move together”.

We did that too! (Cl, Gerald and Kelvin Ho) Albeit this time, it wasn’t balls hitting each other, it was bodies swimming against water resistance – the Swimming Pool!

After that, we went to the post office to send a parcel of mass ~800g off to the US (no prize for guessing who sent it and who was the recepient) and it costed a frgging 30+ dollars just to send that small parcel! Goodness gracious!

Finished reading the 699 pages long Wizard and Glass; on with Wolves of the Calla!

The new Terminal

Interesting Stuff September 5th, 2006 @ 1936h

The new Terminal at Changi Airport shall be built and maintained by the magnanimous Lee HY and shall be known as the “Terminal Velocity”. (Get the pun?)

They went to Changi Airport early in the morning to send Ngee Yong off (good riddance I’d say) and they dragged me all the way there.

Saw Van working hard there as well. Seems like everyone is working hard.

On the way home, I saw someone’s t-shirt with some interesting text:

“Bob the Bodger (?), can we smoke it? Yes we can!” or something like that.

Van will kill me for this.

Mugging

Interesting Stuff September 4th, 2006 @ 2051h

Who invented this word? And what does it really mean? These were what Xiang Long asked me when we went for our “mugging” session at places near Bugis today. (I used “places” because we moved around.)

According to Wikipedia, mugging is a form of robbery! So are we robbing someone? Something similar is Model Mugging which is no where near the meaning of “studying”.

And I finally found it at TalkingCock Singlish Dictionary. Seems like a Singaporean invention. =)

It’s near. One more month.

Books, Interesting Stuff, School September 2nd, 2006 @ 2018h

A pretty long post awaits.

Woke up to the sound of my mobile’s alarm at 8 am. That omnipresent “beep beep beep”.

On the way to school, the bus (31) I was on almost had a head-on collision with a turning lorry at a junction. The bus was travelling very fast, probably above the speed limit for buses and probably trying to beat the red light. At the junction, as a lorry was attempting to turn (or going forward; I can’t tell, for that matter), the bus almost collided with it.

The tale doesn’t end here. The bus driver, probably recovering from the shock of that near-accident, began driving at turtle speed and MISSED the bus stop which a few VJ people and I were supposed to get off. In case you were wondering, the “BUS STOPPING” sign was glowing red. And thus began my slogging to the school with my mind somewhat still in dream land.
